Calera’s technology proposes the new and greener technology of producing cement. While the old technology of making cement takes a lot of heat that comes from fossil fuels, Calera's technology employs catalysis instead of heat. It reduces the energy cost per ton of cement. Moreover, in this process, CO2 is an input instead of output. In producing a ton of cement, half a ton of carbon dioxide can be sequestered. While the old technology produces a ton of carbon dioxide per ton of cement made.
