Green Insulation Options

Making your home more energy efficient is the single most eco-friendly improvement that you can do and your insulation is the best place to start. Given the cost vs. efficiency of the following selections, what would be your choice for Insulation?

FIBERGLASS - The pink stuff.
CELLULOSE - Pretty much shredded up newspaper.
RIGID POLYSTYRENE - Sheets of cut-to-fit Styrofoam.
RECYCLED DENIM/COTTON - Made from recycled blue jeans.
HEMPFLAX - Mostly hemp fiber with added polyester fibre for reinforcing.
HEATLOK SOYA - Spray foam insulation.
AEROGEL - Special type of super-porous silicon foam that is 99% air.

Re: Green Insulation Options

For efficiency reason (of material used, not of cost), yes I think aerogel is a good option because it is 99% air.
I personally would prefer cellulose. I like the idea to recycle newspaper. Tons of newspaper produced everyday, so don't need to worry about the material source. Moreover, it is quite environmentally friendly. Newspaper is an organic material and decomposable.

aerogel uses air, so I voted for aerogel. we're never gonna run out of air you know.. but trees are in danger.

Well, maybe aerosol contain air most. Still, it uses silicon, an indestructible material. After we don't used it, it become a pollutant like plastic which need hundred thousands of years to get destructed.
