Re: Clothes you wear...

Well, I have two parts to this answer. The first is that I've never heard of organic weave and have no clue what it is and the second is that I haven't bought new clothes in years. I don't understand the new to restock your closet the way some people do. I'm not fashion crazy, I guess.

Re: Clothes you wear...

Organic weave is clothes that are made of organic cotton etc. that is cotton grown by not using chemicals of any kind. Many believe the cloth texture is much better with organic clothes...and it surprises me that u have not heard of it..

On the other hand...even not piling up your closet with clothes you will not need and not wear is a good thing...so keep it up.

This is just my personal opinion, but I figure the best way to have a "sustainable" closet is by keeping wearable clothes for as long as you can, and once you need more clothes, go to a secondhand store or a place like Ebay first. If there's something you can't find at a thrift store, used, or is too specialized, then you just have to make sure that whatever you need is produced ethically and sustainably.

I agree damalojo..even if you cannot find anything that i sutainably made...the first effort should be to use the clothes as long as you can...buy new that are in good condition but maybe from ebay and all....and give your old clothes too for reuse....

Re: Clothes you wear...

Well with back to school time again the closets are getting cleaned out (mine included), my 14 yr daughter and I made 6 1/2 inch squares from heavy cardboard. We're cutting the fabric up into squares from our old clothes and recycling into a quilt.
(the nicer items are donated to a local charity)

As for organic cotton, sounds great, I always try to buy cotton made in USA. Haven't seen any organic cotton around yet. But we don't shop too much either.

Thanks for the definition, atula. I'm really not a fashionista by any sense. I haven't purchased anything new in years. I'm happy with what I have. :}

Re: Clothes you wear...

I have bought a few organic cotton pieces, but they are quite expensive; I expect as more people start to buy them (they are insanely comfy, especially for folk with sensitive skin)the price will drop.
Most of my clothes I buy at second-hand stores. Just a bit of time on the lookout and you'll find fabulous buys; today I scored two blouses that had never been worn and made by two good designers into the bargain. You can pick up shoes that have never been worn either, and for rock-bottom prices.

Re: Clothes you wear...

trying to buy locally made clothing can help as well.. Organic cotton is stupidly expensive, so not always an option..
