Keep a bucket in the shower

What to you do with the cold water from the shower before it heats up? I keep a bucket nearby to catch the cold water runoff so I can use in other areas of my house. It makes for a good source of water for the plants inside and outside my home.

These are great ideas. I've heard horror stories about people wasting water when showering.

The worst was about someone who'd get up in the morning, turn on the water and then go back to bed!

Try brushing your teeth without leaving the water tap running... You would be surprised at how much water that saves.

Watering plants with it is a good idea. My kitty, however, seems to think that the bucket has the very best water in it, and is forever trying to figure out how to get to it without dunking herself in the water.

my two year old..gets his kid bath tub while taking a shower and places it directly under it...he then sit in the tub and when it is full just asks me to close the shower...he then plays with all his toys, gets his bath and has saved lots of shower water.... :)

I hadn't thought of this! Fortunately, my water heats up super quick and as soon as I turn it on, I can climb in the other side and it's already warm. I can only imagine how much water I've wasted in the past, though, with previous showers.

Good for your son :WINGS: , atula! He makes me feel a bit ashamed of myself, as my shower is on the second floor, and sometimes I find excuses to not carry a bucket of water down the stairs. I will try to think of your son, and follow his example.

Re: Keep a bucket in the shower

As to kids bathing...as long as they're not totally filthy, wash them two (or more?) at a time. That's what we did with our two; they loved it. They had great fun, especially in the warm weather when they could stay in a long time.
Of course, there comes a time to phase it out (we had a boy and a girl). They also tend to grow out of the tub as well. BUT, don't forget how much you and your sweetie liked showering together in the good old days  . Start it up again; you'll take less time these days (?), and you've got an automatic back scrubber as well.
