Global warming controversy

While many people are fighting against global warming and its undesirable effects, there are also people who are sceptic about global warming and states that global warming is still considered "unproved", and there is virtually unanimous agreement in the scientific community in support of human-caused global warming.
What do you think about this controversy? Should we think that this global warming is still tolerable and no action need to be taken against it?

Well....sorry to hear about that. It's strange. Because the icy surface in Arctic is continuously melting, threatening the life of polar bears. The melting of its sea ice habitat reduces the polar bears' ability to find sufficient food.
I suspect climate change is happening now. That's why some times the weather in a certain time is unpredictable. Just IMO :)

I agree with you, global warming just makes no sense when were chilling on a supposed to be spring season. I don't worry about the global warming too much anymore as like the first time I heard about it.

Re: Global warming controversy

One thing is for sure... Earth's climate is rapidly changing all over the world. Areas that were once very wet are suffering catastrophic droughts and places that were once frozen are melting at an alarming rate. I think the problems is... who's to say these are not 'normal' climate changes? The Earth's climate has been evolving for billions of years much like the surface of the Earth has been evolving for billions of years.

Yeah, that makes sense. We are not sure whether the recent climate changes are 'normal' or not.
Anyway, Associated Press reported the European Space Agency warning that A massive ice shelf anchored to the Antarctic coast by a narrow and quickly deteriorating ice bridge could break away soon. Satellite images show the bridge that connects the Wilkins Ice Shelf to Charcot and Latady Islands "looks set to collapse."

Re: Global warming controversy

Hart,
Part of what irritates many of us is when people such as yourself make the false claim that there is almost total agreement within the scientific community that global warming is man made. There isn't. It isn't even close. Most scientists believe that the climate is changing as per the natural cycles of this planet.

In fact it was released about a month ago that we are heading into a rapid cooling period.

So which is it? Global warming or global cooling?

I don't know it is global warming or global cooling. I live in a tropical place, and it's always hot here and I am used to the weather. But since about a month ago it's much hotter here so that even the natives like us feel inconvenient with it. Maybe neither warming nor cooling is global now. It's better to call it climate change, the term to use now.

(
...but according to the National Academy of Sciences, "the phrase 'climate change' is growing in preferred use to 'global warming' because it helps convey that there are [other] changes in addition to rising temperatures."
)

Climate change, yes it's part of natural cycle but human activities also contribute something to the change.

The Earth's climate has changed many times during the planet's history, with events ranging from ice ages to long periods of warmth. Historically, natural factors such as volcanic eruptions, changes in the Earth's orbit, and the amount of energy released from the Sun have affected the Earth's climate. Beginning late in the 18th century, human activities associated with the Industrial Revolution have also changed the composition of the atmosphere and therefore very likely are influencing the Earth's climate.

I think the concept behind the global warming...., well, climate change campaign is to minimize human contribution.
Apart from that, encouraging each other to be greener, stop polluting environment and more efficiently use energy harms nobody, right? :)

Re: Global warming controversy

Global Climate Change is real, and is accelerated by mankind. I don't care if others believe in it or not. I am doing what I can to combat the waste and pollution created. The fact is that if we just stop creating waste and think about what our actions affect we can make a huge difference in the world. Example-- If we were to look at what a plastic bag can do out in the world and what effect it can have on other species or ecosystems we might be more inclined to stop using them. Some people just don't care, Those people like the status quo untill it hits home with them and affects their individual lives. Then you see a paradigm shift and their actions change. What is important is that we as environmentalist should avail ourselves to every one no matter what point they are in their acceptance of the reality of GCC. When and if these people finaly come to accept GCC we will need to teach them how to change for the better.
