The Green Garbage Project

For one year a couple from Dallas, Oregon will challenge themselves to not produce any garbage that ends up in a landfill. After the year is comlete they hope to produce no more than one plastic grocery bag of garbage bound for a landfill. This sounds daunting even for the greenest of people.

You can stay up to date with their progress through the website: http://www.greengarbageproject.com

Re: The Green Garbage Project

That's quite a challenge. I know that when I was in college, a friend of one of my professor's was very green before green was even a term. In fact, they produced so little garbage that he was able to prevent the city from billing him for refuse pickup. I wish this couple luck and much success!

Re: The Green Garbage Project

I just read the couple is planning to move across town..

How do you move and not make/find any trash? I just moved not too long ago and I must have thrown out 6 large garbage bags full of broken junk I've held on to for so many years. How do you recycle an old wooden window with the glass broken out? Maybe I'm just not green enough.

Re: The Green Garbage Project

Glass can be recycled and wood used for other things. I'm not sure how, but I do know that folks who put their minds to it really can be unbelievably garbage free.

Re: The Green Garbage Project

Here's how you do it..............hoard it all so there is nothing to throw away.

My next querstion is,are they going to use a outhouse and bury their human waste or are they jus talk'n bout everyday human trash like cans, boxes as trash? or are they going for the ultimate green gusto and going to live like a third world family with their bathroom waste? I have a idea they could get one of those arobics systems and water the yard with it.

You should be a reporter and try to interview them. I have a hunch very few have thought to ask that last question.
