The survival of the fittest

The survival of the fittest is the ageless law of nature, but the fittest are rarely the strong. The fittest are those endowed with the qualifications for adaptation, the ability to accept the inevitable and conform to the unavoidable, to harmonize with existing or changing conditions.

We know this law of nature for a long time, but I just realize the truth: the fittest are rarely the strong. Who doubt this guy's strength and vigor?

Still his life is now critically endangered :( So far we have lost 2 subspecies of tiger. Will this siberian tiger be the next?

Re: The survival of the fittest

That's true. In the ancient time, the first mammalian managed to survive while most bigger and stronger animals, the dinosaurs were extinct. That's because the mammalian could adapt to the changing environment in that time.

Re: The survival of the fittest

Unfortunately there's a price to pay for being so beautiful. When a species is being slaughtered, as the Siberian Tiger has been for decades, it has nothing to do with being the fittest or the strongest. It only has to do with human arrogance and greed.

the fittest are judged not by the brawns but by the brains...and in tht way man has been given more than any other living species....it is another thing that he has not utilised this brain for goodness of everyone...but only for his own benefit.r

Re: The survival of the fittest

the word 'fittest' does not mean toughest physically.. it means best equipt for survival... that could be the animal with the thickest fur in an iceage, the animal that can swim during floods... the animal that can eat many different things in times of famine.. Man survives because he is the most adaptable of all the species. Those animals with a limited diet, limited habitat, such as polar bears and tigers are the ones in danger.. no matter how strong they are...

Re: The survival of the fittest

"The Fittest" becomes, unfortunately, irrelevant when a tiger comes across a person with a gun. Some may think that makes us the fittest, but I disagree.
At least in this time in history, humankind and their technology can threaten and even make extinct something as beautiful as a Tiger. Some folks like to point out that according to the Bible, humans are given "dominion" over all the animals. Some take that to mean that we can abuse, hunt, and ruin the environment because of that Bible verse. To them I ask, you are also given dominion over your children. Do you abuse them because you can? There are several interpretations to the word "dominion".

Re: The survival of the fittest

That's true. A good king won't hunt, abuse or kills people living in his dominion, right? Moreover, the Bible was written by human. So it really makes sense that humans (and not tigers or dinosaurs) are given "dominion" over all the animals. But it's beyond the scope of this discussions :)

Re: The survival of the fittest

yes.. lets not bring god into it... lol..

but i personally think that when they say 'dominion' they mean that man as the intelligent spieces, has the RESPONSIBILITY for the rest of the animals... 'in charge' of their well being and continued existance.. we've been given the 'job' of protecting them... and we are rubbish at it unfortunately....

You're right, Stav. We, collectively, aren't the protectors we should be. We need to learn to be, for sure, or we'll be losing some beautiful animals.

Re: The survival of the fittest

The most dangerous place in the world for an unborn child is in the womb of a woman, If the baby can survive in the womb till birth,he or she will have withstood the most hostile enviroment, the womb of a woman. That is survival, how diffucult it is for a baby to survive and it's not even exposed to the world and all of its predators, just it's own flesh and blood, wanting to kill it for who knows why. Good luck baby,I for one am trying to preserve your life. Won't you join me? and the baby?
