Re: Green Christmas Trees

you have a very important point their deltic....I have noticed so many times that trees that are planted at public places are not tended and therefore all the effort is wasted...if planting a tree is important what is also equally more important is to take care that it survives...
In places like ethiopia...where there is already acute water shortage....the survival of the plant saplings becomes even more difficult if continous efforts are not put in to take care of them.

Re: Green Christmas Trees

Trees bring rain Atula.. and they also hold the topsoil so it is not all washed away when there is a torrential rainfall that does nobody any good... Ethiopia is a dust bowl and famine is widespread.. re-forestation is a big chance to change things there..r

Re: Green Christmas Trees

Exactly stav....but to give the trees a chance to get rooted properly and grow, it must be a constant effort to care for them too intially...just planting is not enough. I know of a lady who actually converted a desert in India into a virtual oasis by planting trees every year out of her salary and taking care of them, she eventually built her house nearby to see that the tree saplings were tended and did not die due to lack of water or manures...she also had to ward of the animals like goats, cows who could venture and eat th plant...for 20-30 years she kept a strict vigil and today...the are is lush green...thanks to her individual effort....
organisations have atleast better manforce and facilities and I am sure....they can make ethiopia green too with constant effort....

Re: Green Christmas Trees

Stav you are absolutely right, but without educating the people to tend the trees and providing some resources for that, the saplings will not survive and there will be no benefit to the people.
