Rules About Drying Clothes Outside

I read online that there are a number of places in USA wher people are banned from drying washing outside on a washing line. If countries are serious about green issues surely rules like this should be banned. Surely people should be encouraged to dry garments outside whenever possible.

My parents lived in one of those communities for quite a few years, where you had to get the colour approved before you could paint your houses, and what flowers you could plant, all kinds of mad rules. The purpose was to make sure that there would be no people who would clash with the rest, or let their gardens go. Everything was to look upper class and harmonious. So, I can believe there are places that don't allow clothes hanging, and probably for just that reason. Hopefully this can change :???: .

Surely this would be a very simple thing for President Obama to tackle, after all if everyone takes care of small things it can add up to a very big difference.

It would seem so, Deltic, but people who don't like President Obama will start shrieking about their "rights" being taken away from them.

it is exactly the reason where simple things become complicated and finally the loss is envirnments...if people were to leave their egoes behind and just think rationally it would help so much to eradicate mad rules and actually do something constructive.

What is so terrible about looking at laundry hanging on a washing line. I am not suggesting that everyone should be compelled to dry clothes outside, just that places and landlords should not be able to ban people from drying clothes outside. Anyway when it comes to rights, no one has the right to destroy the environment! If Obama is the man I hope he is, he will understand that sometimes he has to make unpopular decisions.

i can just imagine that outdoor clothes lines will definitely be an issue high on Obama's list of priorities... probably just above the war in iraq... *cough*

taking stavs remark in a different light...why do we always need the President to solve issues like these...why can't we as a communitiy try to understand what is right for us and the environemnt and thus ammend our ways...understandably...hanging clothes outside isn't a big big rule breaking issue...it can be rectified if only the people of a community come together and do what's right.

Re: Rules About Drying Clothes Outside

I think I might have opened up a can of worms that I didn't mean to...? Yes, people's egos should be subsumed for the better of the environment, but, tragically, there is a loud minority in the US who "Don't like being told what to do",and feel "They're my clothes, I paid for them, and I'll dry them however I want."
When I mentioned the trouble that President Obama would have, with even the simplest request that people dry their clothes on the line, for example, that is what I meant. I am not saying that Obama wouldn't want to do it, or would waffle about doing it. If he requested it, many people would do it, some would react as I stated above, and some would say it's none of his business, and why is he wasting his time on something small like that?
About Iraq...as for me, I wish that the President was moving faster to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we have to remember that it was Bush who started that war and left it in the terrible state it is in. Not to mention Blackwater and all the behind the scenes stuff we know nothing about. We need to give the President some room in this, just my opinion.
