Hydro electric power in small scale

Do you think it is possible to have our own hydro electric generator in a small scale (for personal use). Will we need a small river with a small waterfall nearby our house, or we can make the artificial ones :) I don't know. What do you think?

Interesting concept...
I suppose with the right environmental conditions it would be possible. I would think it might work better on a community scale rather than individual basis. I think a large obstacle would be finding manufacturers that would produce the technology for such an remote consumer base. There must be ways to better use our environmental resources.

I agree with you. It will be more manageable and efficient to maintain a hydroelectric generator to supply the electric power to a community than to a single family. I think it will work best on communities in remote and/or underdeveloped areas.

I think now, it's not practicable and efficient to run a hydro electric generator individually, except you run it collectively like the former posters advised. For individual usage, you had better apply wind turbine or solar panel for your additional electric power supply.
