I'd much rather the government run programs like this than just hand over billions of dollars in dead money. I just wish they had a better plan for the vehicles that are being traded in.

heres the math numbers on cash for clunkers 250,000 cars sold and it is out of money,imagine healthscare run by these people if this went broke in a week,millions rushing to the hosiptals and bankrupting that also. who do you think is paying for this gov't handout? I would rather keep my hard earned money,and get a tax break. I really don't like paying people's house payments or for their car.This is utopia for some.

1 billion 1 hundred 25 million if you go by the 4500 max... but we all know that not every car got the full 4500 on the trade in value. so...

You do know that the gov't had ordered these vehicles running or not to be shredded. No recycling of tires,no stripping the car for body parts,no rebuilding starters,generators,no turning of rotors,NOTHING on these cars can be used for anything! What kind of stupidty is that? Think of the millions and millions of dollars that are being wasted by the gov't not allowing these cars to be used for parts. Not all people can afford a new car in these hard economic times. Thousands of jobs are being lost by not recycling these parts. Are these supposedly the "GREEN JOBS" that the greenecks praise Hussien OBama for creating and he is not ? What happens to these car companies in these hard economic times when the handout is all used up again,in a couple of weeks? Congress is also considering lowering the income amount to 50,000.00 dollars,anyone making more than that does not qualify for the handout (class warfare).

Heck of a sale though ,the gov't gotta move cars,they own a controlling interest in them.

If this where suppose to be for all Americans,then this handout would not end,it would be incorporated into our system like the rest of the failed gov't programs that are either bankrupt,inefficent,or just plain worthless,like the post office,which is 6 billion in the hole,social security bankrupt,medicare same thing,but oh please add more handouts and tax me more for sloppy management. You wouldn't run your own house like this,why do you accept it from your gov't?

I agree with you Short.. There was never a good plan on what to do with the vehicles after they were traded in. To just destroy the vehicles is absurd. They do plan on recycling the steel they get from the vehicles but the parts should be stripped out first and sold to others who can still use them.

I agree that the failure to strip the cars is an oversight, but I like the program overall. It's a shame that no one in power has a way to get recycling of these cars going. I don't object to the killing of the engines, but the rest of the car should be handled appropriately.

Orrymain,someone does have the power,it's you. All you have to do is call your represenitive for your district. If you do this,you will become a "activist",like me.

You tell them if they cannot use common sense in the cash for crappers that you will not vote for him/her in the next election. That you will support his/her opponent and that you will donate money,campaign and support their opponent. and if they use commom sense then you will vote for them. It is very simple,and these people luuuuuvvv to stay in power. Just call and email them. I did it when they wanted to give immunity last year to illegal aliens and did not want to seal the border,didn't you see how fast congress dropped that hot potato?

Only 2 percent of the dealers have been paid by Obama. Hmmmmmm.
