The first public charging station was inaugurated

Good news for the electric vehicle's owners. The first public high-voltage charging station for electric started operating at the Gateway Center in East Woodland California. It is capable of charging an electric car in about one hour. It is an example for future upcoming stations in other states.

I think that's great. Considering the one hour required for a charge, I wonder if these stations will find themselves in areas where there's shopping or restaurants, to give drivers something else to do while they're waiting for the charge?

I know this will seem petty but... Why do we need shopping centers or restaurants near the charging stations? Why not a huge woodland area or meadow? Maybe a lake or a stream? Americans spend to much time consuming resources why not get them out enjoying what our efforts are trying to protect? Just my two cents.

That's great. I mean both the charging station and the woodland, or even a well designed park or tourism object. It can be a relaxing oasis where working people seeking a quick break enjoy the soothing experience of being in close to the nature.

If the mall or restaurant is already there, wouldn't charging stations be very useful there? I could see restaurants or theatres using this as an incentive for folk to come enjoy themselves there while their cars charge.
Anyway, this represents real progress, IMHO.

in an ideal world charging stations would be in pretty parks where we can sit and picnic and admire the wildlife while we waited for our cars to be charged... in an ideal world...

until then, it is practical to build them near where a person will need to go to.. leave your car charging for an hour while you go get your veggies, or meet a friend.. makes sense to me...

Perhaps the charging stations will become as ubiquitous as gas stations are today. We could be telling our grand- and great grandkids about these obsolete "filling stations", boring them to tears, most likely.

I that's a good idea, if it would be practical. Maybe you could walk your dog for an hour as your car charges, or rent a kayak or something like that.

Off the top of my head, I imagine there would be fewer people doing those things than spending an hour at a restaurant or in a mall.

Woohoo! I think this is pretty exciting. It goes to show that it's becoming popular enough to have a charging station built, so maybe the trend will keep growing.

that's great news i am sure that will encourage others to go for the electric car...but more are very much needed if you want to avoid the long wait to charge your car.
