Rain harvesting tank

It is forecasted that in the future, clean and pure water for our consumption will be less available. To anticipate it, we need to look for more water source possibilities. And I think the cheap and ready to collect one is rain water. It is important that from now we maintain the habit to collect rain water. So, a rain harvesting container should be part of an eco-friendly house. What do you think?

Re: Rain harvesting tank

Evan rainwater needs to purified these days.

A great solution for drinkable water is desalination. The ocean clearly has an abundant amount of water and desalination has been proven to work in Places like Tampa, FL. The biggest drawback is the amount of power required to complete the desalination process. When we develop a clean limitless energy supply (solar, wind) we will be able to produce our own drinkable water.

Yeah, with so much pollutant in the air, we cannot expect pure drinking water from rain. It is also some treatment and filtering to get it ready to drink. But I think treating the rain water will cost less than desalinizing sea water. Well, depending on the place and situation, both are the good options of water sources.

I think that the point that needs to be made is that rainwater havesting is ment to fill in as a replacement for irrigating your yard with tap water thereby giving you more clean water to use for human consumption. In some cases you can even use the reclaimed rain water to wash clothes and water inside plants or gardens. Reusing water any way you can is always the best option.

Re: Rain harvesting tank

I heard an ad on the radio today for a rain water collector of some kind and it mentioned a rust-proof mosquito screen, which makes a lot of sense.
