Nuclear Meltdown

Ok, Here's the rub. Some one said that environmentalists don't like nuclear energy. So I have some questions.

How do you suppose we should deal with the Nuclear Waste?

What would you say about having that waste transported through or near your city or town?

Do you have objections to having radioactive materials buried in your state?

Would you be willing to subsidize the building of these plants because the current cost to build one is extremely prohibitive?

I have answers to all these questions. I am an environmentalist and I support Nuclear Energy that is well regulated.

Re: Nuclear Meltdown

I think maybe your first question should have been dealt with before we started using nuclear energy.

I'm not that familiar with nuclear waste, but there's no way of "treating" it and making it safe, is there?

Re: Nuclear Meltdown

Ok let me answer these questions myself. Since I have seen no one else give them a shot.

Most waste is burried, in major tombs under mountains where it stays an environmental risk for thousands of years. Some would say it also poses a security risk. So the first Question was what should we do with all the waste?

My solution has always been to burn it. Not here on our planet but 93 million miles from here. My proposal has always been to send the waste on a trajectory that will take the payload deep into space and directly into the Suns corona. Of course the arguement that I am sure I will encounter is the risk of an explosion that results in nuclear waste fall out coming back to the surface. That is always a risk and one that should weigh heavily on the minds of any agency who tries to do it. However I think that the risk is acceptable when weighed against the risks associated with keeping nuclear waste on earth.

What would you say about having waste transported through your town or city? I, like everyone else am not a fan of the idea. However there are times when we have to make a deal with the devil in order to get what we need or want. I believe this is one of those times. I am not a Nimby Pimby and if it will benefit mankind then do it but be safe.

Burial of waste in my state?-- If done safely I have no problem with it. Considering if it's not done here it will be done somewhere else and will eventually affect me anyway.

Yes I would be willing to subsidize the building of more plants I think they are neccessary to preserve our way of life. I also say that equal funds need to be given to the development of renewable energies like solar, wind and geothermal and tidal.
