The Five countries' statement about threatened polar bears.

The five countries surrounding the Arctic (Canada, Denmark (with Greenland), Norway, Russia and the United States) declared climate change the single greatest threat to polar bears, calling for urgent action to curb global warming.
They also "recognized the urgent need for an effective global response that will address the challenges of climate change."

Yeah, I haven't either. Hope I can encounter one sometime :)
They are so white, so cute. I hope they can survive. I just wonder. They live in such a cold place, where for most of us is the last place we want to live. Still, their life is unsafe.

I like polar bears. I think that they are adorable. But the truth is that more species have gone extinct before the first human walked upright than currently exist on this planet. That is just the way it is. We cannot control the normal cycles of this planet and considering what happens with the things we DO control, I suspect that we are all better off.

Yes I have seen several.. and a full grown polar bear couldn't be further from 'cute' if it tried.. They are majestic powerful predators and we are losing them..

Polar bears are lone hunters, and they need a wide territory to hunt.. with the ice pack breaking up they are having problems surviving, and are now onthe endangered list at the World Wildlife Fund..

The Portland Zoo has a polar bear exhibit. They have a big pool for them to swim in, with one of the walls plexiglas so you can watch them swim. Such huge power and beauty, and they'll float there, watching you curiously as you watch them curiously. If you ever get the chance, go see it.

ACCER, somehow I don't think you'll be so philosophical when it's time for you and yours to go.

The US was in on this? Shocking. I find them to be quite horrible most times when it comes to actually following through on helping 'save the animals'.

Kitten, I tend to agree with you.. the US record on animal protection and conservation as well as other green issues is pretty woeful considering they style themselves as world leaders...
