Recycle Newspapers

Ok, in answer to a post in another thread. Lets hear from everyone how they recycle their old newspapers.

We have a paper recycling centre near us and i bundle all ours up and take them every month. One use suggested is as gardening mulch. Any other good ideas out there?

Re: Recycle Newspapers

I don't get the newspaper... But I do get that ungodly junk mail that comes on newsprint. So what I do is shred it once or twice a month and compost it with my kitchen greens and yard clippings. The paper adds the carbon needed to balance the mixture.

Re: Recycle Newspapers

I don't have a center near here and can't garden with them. I love using them for other projects, though, like to cover the table when the kids are painting, paper mache, or using them as packing material.

Re: Recycle Newspapers

I use newspapers for bedding for my rabbits...for art jobs...for making planes and other origami things for my kid...sometimes for covering a book i am reading so that it does not get spoiled, for placing before cutting vegetables and wrapping up and throwing them in the mulch, for paper mache work and sometimes for making paper bags...

Re: Recycle Newspapers

The folk that do the garbage pick-up also has bins for recycling. They take newspapers and office mix in the same bin, glass, aluminum, and plastic.
During this time of year, I use newspapers mostly as what I cut my melons on. Then I wrap up the whole thing, throw the rinds in the trash, and the paper into the bin. Another thing I use newspapers for all year long is to dry/shine the windows, mirrors, and pictures under glass. Vinegar and warm water in a 1/3-2/3 mix works great as your cleaning agent.

Re: Recycle Newspapers

I just put my newspapers in the recycling bin and the bin men take it. I recycle magazines by giving them to friends, local homeless hostel or doctor's surgery. Also primary schools like to be given magazines for cutting out pictures and making craft items
