Anyone off the electric grid?

We're off the grid for now, but I think if our solar power system grows big enough to sell back to the utility companies, we might hook up to the grid. We started out so small, with four batteries and two panels, which didn't run much, Pretty much TV and lights. Over the years, every tax return season, we add more to it and now we are comfortable. One way we cheaply expanded was to fix broken panels people gave us. I think more people could have solar power if they started out small, if you're already on the grid, start by buying one panel (and an inverter), you don't need batteries if you just want to supplement your existing electricity.

Not off the grid unfortunately but someday I hope. The wive wants to be in a different location before she let's me install solar. I plan on doing it the same way you started one piece at a time. :JUMP: I want it now!!! :-(> mean wife!

How many areas offer you the opportunity to see power back to the utility company?

I'm in Ontario and I'm not aware of that option here, but I think it's a great incentive for people to get into solar power.

Net metering is mandatory in Missouri. Unless you live out in the sticks you have to tie into the grid... Thats ok though because in the end you get a check back from the utility for the energy you put into their system.
